The Genting Highlands was established by the late Chinese businessman Lim Goh Tong in 1965 as a convenient holiday destination from Kuala Lumpur. This integrated resort development features casinos, hotels, theme parks, shopping malls, and other attractions. Today, it is also known as the City of Entertainment.

When to Visit Genting Highlands?

The Genting Highlands is a year-round destination, with mild weather and average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C throughout the year.

Summer

March to September

During these months, the rainfall is its least. This means that it’s easy to move around and sightsee the attractions and you won’t be restricted from enjoying the outdoor rides at the theme parks.

However, April and May are the warmest months and it can get quite crowded during school holidays.

Monsoon & Winter

October to February

The wet season sees heavy and constant rainfall and is accompanied by a drop in temperatures. During the end of the year, you will experience misty weather and thunderstorms.

However, this is the off-peak season and sees much fewer crowds than the peak summer months.

Getting There

By Car/Taxi

From Kuala Lumpur is a short 1-hour drive to the Genting Highlands. You can either drive or book a taxi. However, it is recommended that you drive carefully since the roads here are quite steep.

The Genting Highlands is served by the Genting Express Bus Service which starts from KL Sentral and Pudu Sentral in Kuala Lumpur. It stops at the Awana Transportation Hub in the Genting Highlands.

By Cable Car

You can use the Awana Skyway as a convenient way to get to the Genting Highlands. It takes only 10 minutes from Awana Station near Gohtong Jaya town to Sky Avenue Station in the Genting Highlands.

Chin Swee Caves Temple

This Taoist religious site was built by Lim Goh Tong, the man who developed the Genting Highlands. It was built in honor of the Buddhist figure Chin Swee. The temple features ornate prayer halls, massive statues of the Buddha, and an iconic pagoda.

Strawberry Leisure Farm

This farm is located in Gohtong Jaya, a town in the Genting Highlands. It is known for its hydroponic strawberry farming, and flower gardens. It also features a shopping alley, a lavender garden, flower nursery, and more.

Mini Cameron

This agricultural center is popular for its main complex called ‘Garden in the Sky’, that houses a local product shopping gallery, a flower nursery, a Korean restaurant, an orchid garden, and a seafood joint under its roof.

Happy Bee Farm

An apiary located near Gohtong Jaya, here you can learn all about honey production and taste some delicious samples. The farm also has exhibits of local butterflies and birds, and also sells bottled honey and honey products like balms, soaps, and other supplements.

Lim Gohtong Memorial Park

Located in Gohtong Jaya, this memorial park commemorates the founder of Genting Highlands, Lim Goh Tong. You can visit the Memorial Hall, which is surrounded by orchid blossoms, and features a mural of Genting Resort in the background.

Gohtong Jaya

This small town in the Genting Highlands, located on just 5km below the peak. The town is full of shops and restaurants, specifically Chinese cuisine and street food.  You can also pick up some delicious local fruits.
